The world has The Ryder Cup when it comes to high-stakes, team competition in golf.

In Copiah and Lincoln Counties, a similar event is played yearly called The Norwood Cup.

It’s not the United State against Europe in this one though, as the membership from Wolf Hollow Golf Club in Wesson and The Clubs at Ole Brook in Brookhaven are the ones squaring off in the competition named after Ed Norwood.

The guys from Lincoln County hosted the event this weekend and when things went final Sunday, the Clubs at Ole Brook retained the cup with a 24-16 final score.

Jason Barrett was caption of Team OB which consisted of Blake Windham, Zach Smith, Jeremy Winbrone, Stephen Bozeman, Gabe Wilson, Clay Price, Scott Christensen, Matt Pare, Jonathan Burns, Paxton Lee, Michael Gates, Mason Warren, Brody Thibodeaux, Korey Allen, Jim Wisinger, Mike Wooten, Bubba Keene, Darrin Hirsch, and Kris Rouse. Tripp Jolly was the alternate and assistant captains for Barrett were Stevie Fitzsimmons, Matt Fitzsimmons, Kevin Smith, and Jeff Henning.

Shane Easterling was the caption of Team WH which consisted of Gerald Housley, Johnny Walton, Brandon Goldsmith, Kolby Cox, Casen Easterling, Riley Easterling, Dave Marlow, Brett Rutland, Joe Walker, Pat Drew, Russell Elliott, Eddie Coleman, Ricky McInnis, Chris Lofton, Ryan Case, Warren Hood, Ryan Ratcliff, Will Lee, and Brock Campbell. Assistant captains for Easterling were Mark Scruggs, Mark Merrell, and Lannie Staten.

The cup was created in 2009 to honor Norwood, a champion of the game at both clubs in his long life. Mr. Ed, as he was affectionally known by all, passed away in 2022 at the age of 99.

Team OB member Gabe Wilson had a memorable tournament, as he hit a hole-in-one on the fifth hole on Saturday.

It wasn’t just a bunch of greybeards on the course, as a couple of high school teammates competed against each other.

Loyd Star senior Brody Thibodeaux, left in the above picture, played with Team OB against his fellow Hornet golfer, Casen Easterling, who suited up for team WH.

The 2026 Norwood Cup is scheduled to be played at Wolf Hollow.
