Every week we’re spotlighting a program from around Pike County for our Team of the Week, presented by Casey Carter, Farm Bureau Insurance.

The Noth Pike girls’ basketball team is off to a blazing start, with a 13-2 record thus far in the 2025-2026 season.

The Lady Jaguars have won eight games in a row and will play at Franklin County (9-3) on Friday in a matchup of two programs playing good ball right now.

Second year head coach Ron Kessler is getting balanced scoring across the board from a trio of juniors.

Kadence Thompson and Kaden Jordan both lead the way with a 10.9 points per game average. The other top scorer, not named Kadence, but also a junior, is Alexis Jones with a 9.0 points per game average.

Kessler has a group that’s bought in and one strength of North Pike is their ability to switch defenses. They’ll pick up in the full, three-quarter, or half court.

His first team went 22-7 in Summit last season.

The roster isn’t super tall or super-fast, but they’re strong, quick handed, go north-south with the ball, and look for the kickout 3-pointer.

Thompson leads the team with 128 3-point attempts in 15 games while Jordan has hoisted 107 3-pointers.

Losses this season for North Pike have been to Richton (48-42) and Florence (39-25). The best win is a 42-36 triumph over a solid team from Oak Grove.

Region 3-5A should be a battle with Laurel (10-1) and Brookhaven High (9-2) being contenders along with North Pike.

BHS is scheduled to visit North Pike on Jan. 20 and Laurel will come calling on Jan. 30.

Seniors on the roster at North Pike include Asia Brumfield and De’Asia Hudson. Juniors on the team are Jordan, Thompson, Jones, Tristyn Sutton, and Areionna Jackson. Sophomore team members are Ashlyn Brumfield, Ava Conklin, Kacie Williams, Jazaria Gillard, and Tamia Anderson. The team also features freshmen Nyleigh Blalock, Maleyna Washington, She’Mauri Coney, Lamarya Turner, and eighth grader Alexis Watkins.
